Refugees into Employment

RMC belongs to a regional partnership -Regional Action West Midlands –to support the Work Programme for the long term unemployed- those out of work for 12 months and more. In addition, we are continuing with clients carried over from the RIES project which ended in August 2010. This offered an advice service on benefits, housing, legal and health issues as well as an employment service.

We offer an intensive service to prepare refugees and other migrants for routes into employment by:

• Preparing an Employment Assessment and Action Plan
• Helping with writing tailored CVs
• Job search training including basic internet and email
• Completion of application forms for jobs and college/ university places
• Interview preparation and practice
• Completion of application forms for jobs and college/ university places
• Mentoring for UCAS Personal Statements

We work closely with other Refugee Council teams and with other agencies, including refugee community organisations, local authorities, housing providers, Job Centre Plus and employment agencies, education and training agencies, health services, legal and advice services, UK Border Agency staff and interpreting services, to enable new refugees to access a range of relevant services.
